The Real Tragedy of Drowsy Driving

August 23, 2016

Tired driver, MaxAutoPro Car Safety blog

Drowsy driving in America is a real tragedy. Unfortunately, it is becoming as common as drunk driving, and the statistics are not bright.

In the year 2013 alone, there were 72,000 accidents that were attributed to drowsy drivers. Many of these accidents resulted in fatalities or serious injuries.

Below is a list of the most common types of people that may have a tendency to drive drowsy:

  • Commercial truck drivers
  • People suffering from sleep disorders
  • People who take medications that make them drowsy
  • Shift workers
  • People who don’t get enough sleep

Luckily, you can help make the road a safer place. If you notice any of the signs below, you may not be in a safe driving state of mind:

  • Constant yawning
  • Swerving off the road
  • Trouble keeping your eyes open
  • Forgetting that you are driving
  • Missing exits

Be a responsible driver and do all you possibly can to stay alert on the road. For more information regarding driving drowsy, check out this article.
