FIAT

The Fiat brand comes from Italy, where it’s a part of a conglomerate that encompasses Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM. The first Fiat model to debut in the US was the retro-looking Fiat 500. Unfortunately, the Fiat hasn’t been well-liked on this side of the ocean (with the exception of the 124 Spider roadster).Even with high-ranking safety features and stylish options, poor owner satisfaction and a reputation for being less than reliable have all hurt the Fiat brand in the US. This trend continued with Fiat’s re-release in the US of the 500L in 2011.

History
Fiat can trace its earliest vehicle back to the Fiat 4 HP, which was released in 1899. However, the Fiat as we know it today dates to 2007 when Fiat Automobiles (formerly Fiat S.p.A.) was formed in Italy.

Fiat Automobiles is the largest vehicle manufacturer in Italy and has been this way for more than a century. Fiat stood as the third largest automobile manufacturer after General Motors and Ford until the 1980s, when the auto industry experienced crisis.

The first Fiat automobile plant opened in 1900. It had 35 employees and made just 24 vehicles. In only three years, Fiat began turning a profit and produced 135 vehicles. This number jumped again in the next three years to 1,149 vehicles.
